HSP - Plain bulb plate

In addition to the sheet piles for the building industry, bulb flat sections form another focal point of production.

HSP supplies bulb flat sections worldwide for the shipbuilding industry from its production centre in Dortmund. We supply bulb flat sections from 180 mm to 430 mm made of the steel grades required and with the approval of the respective approval authorities such as Germanischer Lloyd, ABS, Lloyd´s Register, Bureau Veritas, Det Norske Veritas.

Bulb flat sections in sizes ranging from 180 to 280 mm are rolled in double width and then split lengthwise. Bulb flat sections in the dimensions from 300 to 430 mm are rolled in final size.

The production is based on sections in various sizes and product-specific steel grades. Bulb flat sections are used in shipbuilding as plate stiffeners in different fields of application. Its shaping guarantees many advantages compared to other reinforcement techiques.

Advantages of bulb flat sections

  • The most economical reinforcement for plates.
  • Clear advantages in the ratio of resistance to weight compared to other possible reinforcement elements such as e.g. angular steel, flat rolled steel or composite buckling stiffeners.
  • The freely accessible, rounded surface prevents the trapping of moisture during coating, which can lead to undesirable corrosion.
  • Acceptance inspections of the welding and coating are made easier due to the special shape.
  • The optimised shape of this buckling stiffener makes it possible to reduce welding to a minimum during installation, particularly in the case of repair work or subsequent reinforcement measures.
